Helen Gill, RET wrote a sympathy message

“Colleague, teammate, and dearest pal, Ray Bortner was a key member of our DARPA Software Enabled Control (SEC) program team. He was deeply invested in the work, a font of technical insight and kindly advice. His creativity, wisdom, and wry, puckish humor were a gift to us all. After his long career of service at AFRL and his stunning generosity to friends, we owe gratitude for the loving care by family and friends in this last, hard fight. Ray, you are in our hearts forever. Bon voyage!”
