He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Merthe; his son-in-law Rick Kreger; his sister Shirley Merthe; and his parents, Donald Merthe and Jane Merthe.
He is survived by: his close friend Missy; his children, Richard Merthe (Debbie) of Amherst, Kathleen Lane (Bob) of Amherst, David Merthe of Amherst, Pamela Kreger of Amherst, Ronald Merthe of Amherst and Tamara Corsaro (Mike) of Oberlin; and his sister Marilyn Lee (Bill) of Vermilion.
