She was predeceased by: her husband Ernest K. Hartling; her daughters, Judith "Judy" Berwald, Susan Smith and Cindy Smith; her parents, John Nivus and Eleanor Nivus; and her brother Jon Nivus.
She is survived by: her children, Molly O'Neill of Amherst, Cheryl Zinck of Centerville, Ohio, Rick Smith of Bellaire, Chris Smith of Centerville and Tim Smith of Henderson, Nevada; her brother Paul Nivus of Owensboro; and her sister-in-law Barbara Nivus of Laconia. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
With Mary's love for animals, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Multiple Breed Rescue, 37305 Royalton Road, Grafton, Ohio 44044.
