He was predeceased by: his parents, Alice Ashbrook and Arthur Ashbrook; his wife Inez Ashbrook (Mickey); his daughter Brenda Hardwick; and his brother Albert Ashbrook (Shirley).

He is survived by: his children, Cindy Patterson (Art), Gregg Ashbrook, Sheryl Loudermilk (Brad), Marcia Cox (Tim) and Debbie Haywood; his grandchildren, Gretchen Ashbrook, Jennifer Vance (JR), Gregg Ashbrook II (Liana), Nick Ashbrook, Bryan Ashbrook, Devon Patterson (Kaity), James Cox (Amy), John Cox (Rachel), James Spears (Ashley), Jessica Calvert (Mike), Tabitha Kelley (Troy), Tiffanie Ferguson (Tim) and Robbi Wells; and his brother Paul Ashbrook (Mary). He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren.
