He was predeceased by: his daughter Jackie Lee; his wife Joyce Greene; his parents, Robert Patterson and Marian Patterson; and his brother Robert Patterson.

He is survived by: his sister Linda Cole; and his children, Julie Ragan (Jack), Richard D Patterson, Jr. (Janine) and David Patterson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
