He was predeceased by: his mother Josephine Nels Barich (Jozefa Strazisar); his wife Rosemary; and his siblings, Albina Snyder, Albert Nels, Jacob Nels, Josephine Grimsic, Tresa Nels and Paula Beavers.

He is survived by: his sibling-in-law Jerry; and his nephews, Joseph Grimsic, Fred Snyder, Rudy Calet, Alan Beavers, David Mark, Hobby Nels, Terry Nels and Albert Leon Nels.
