He was predeceased by: his parents, Sarah F. Ray, (Charles) and Jimmie Ray, Sr.; his former wife Leanna Ray; his daughter Pennie Ray; his siblings, William, Wash, Herman, Jimmie, Jr., Henry "Jack" Ray, Samuel Hunter and Ella Mae Murray; his uncle Richmond Charles (Lee); and his aunt Rebecca Charles.

He is survived by: his former wife Leanna Dennis; his wife Pamela Ray of Akron, OH; his sons, Joseph (Carletta) of Akron and David Ray of Akron; his granddaughter Shatori James (Alan) of Columbus, OH; his great grandchildren, Leyah Sanders, Carter Henderson and Alan James, Jr.; his sisters, Evelyn Ray of Selma, AL and Mary Poole of Akron; and his niece Sedonia Jeneé Poole of Akron. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, relatives, friends.
