He was predeceased by: his parents, George Smith and Winifred Smith (Weir); and his wife Catherine J. VanRensselaer Smith. He is survived by: his children, Melinda "Mindy" Vaikasiene (Jo Vaikasas) of Manassas, VA., Sharon Pederson (Scott) of Alachua, FL., Kenneth Smith (late Denise) of Albany, NY and Daniel "Lester" Steves (Billy Thompson) of Oregon. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren.
