He was predeceased by: his parents, Josef Merkl and Martha Merkl (Dorst); and his sister Helga Haak (Daniel). He is survived by: his wife Patricia DeWinde; his child Marion Rehle (Johan); his stepchildren, Robbin Smith (William), Patricia Piccarreto (Gary) and Jeffrey Martin; and his brother Adam Dorst (Erika). He is also survived by grandchildren; (15) great grandchildren, many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Horst can be made to the Grace Ridge Church.
