He was predeceased by: his parents, George J. Olney and Katharine Floyd Olney; his wives, Dorothy Davis Olney of North Western and June Rickard Olney; and his siblings, Katharine Olney Sterling (Bud), Eleanor Olney Hladun (John) and John B. Olney.

He is survived by: his brother-in-law John "Bud" Sterling; his children, G. Joseph Olney, III (Kathleen) of Rome, Elizabeth Corbett (Patrick) of Queensbury, Christopher Olney (Kathleen) of Westernville and W. Scott Olney (Karen) of Westernville; his stepsons, Christopher Rickard of Poestenkill, Kurt Rickard of Auburn and Eric Rickard (Liza) of Potomac Falls, VA; his grandchildren, George J. Olney, IV (Rachael), Julie Olney Carpenter (Daniel), Sheila Olney, Kevin Corbett (Madeline), Margaret Corbett, Benjamin Olney, Alex McGetrick (Amber), Kelly Palinski (Andrew) and Michael Bartell (Mary); his brother W. Floyd Olney (Elizabeth); his sister-in-law Ann Olney; and his friends, Melinda, Sandy, Patty, Gail, Betty, Cheryl, Tammy, Ben and Ann Harper. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
