He was predeceased by: his mother Elizabeth "Betty" Merkel, Jr. (LaFontaine); and his brother-in-law Kenneth McNamee. He is survived by: his father David; his daughter Sarah Merkel-Goupil (Nick Goupil); his siblings, Deborah "Debbie" McNamee, Jill Riley (Chris) and David Merkel III (Diane); his great-nephew Bryce McNamee; his nephews, Ryan McMartin (Molly), Tyler McMartin and David Merkel IV; his niece Lauren Anne Merkel; and his former wife Darleen Earle Merkel.
