He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis George and Geneva T. Dowd; his former wife Laura V. Ward; his wife Sharon A. Dowd; and his brother Paul Dowd.
He is survived by: his sons, Michael "Kevin" Dowd, Andrew Dowd (Zoe) and Thomas Dowd (Beth); and his brother Phillip Dowd (Reiko). He is also survived by two grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
