He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert B. Schwager, Sr. and Genevieve Alessi Schwager; his former wife Vivian Dunlop; his stepson Gary Thornton; and his brother Harold Schwager.
He is survived by: his stepsons, Charles Thornton (Marsha) of Myrtle Beach, SC, David Thornton (Janet) of Mattituck, NY, Scott Thornton (Rebecca) of Sharon, CT and Douglas Thornton (Julie) of Bryan, TX; and his siblings, William Schwager (Kathy) of Pleasant Valley, NY, Audrey Fitzpatrick of Florida and Genevieve Stoldorff (John) of Nyack, NY.. He is also survived by seven step-grandchildren, nine great step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
