He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Shackelton, and Emma Shackelton, Sr. (Wilcox); his mother-in-law Ruby Kilmer; his brother Ben Shackelton; and his sister-in-law Beverly Kilmer.

He is survived by: his wife Mickey; his daughter Tina Avery of East Greenbush; his granddaughter Ashleigh (Jeremy Pratt) of North Greenbush; his great grandchildren, Jackson and Caroline; his sisters, Carolyn Brown (Doug) and Mareah Allen; and his sister-in-law Wanda VanBuren (Robert) of Walton. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
