He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter O'Connell and Loretta O'Connell; and his siblings, Eileen and Walt. He is survived by: his wife Maureen (Ammann); his children, Donald Jr. (Judy) and Donna Sabbia (Rick); his grandchildren, Christopher Sabbia (Taryn), Shannon Sabbia Race (TJ) and Melissa Sabbia Wolfe (Jake); and his great grandchildren, Aidan Race, Mya Race, Carter Wolfe, Sophia Wolfe, Aubrey Sabbia and Ava Sabbia.
