He was predeceased by: his parents, Carmine Sapienza and Ruth Ackerman Sapienza; his daughter Marianne Carmen Sapienza; and his brothers, Edward and John Sapienza.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Schreiber Sapienza; his children, Ruthanne Sapienza, Joseph Carmine Sapienza (Katherine), Edwin James Sapienza (Amy) and Robert Carmine Sapienza (Amy); his grandchildren, Teresa Anne (William Monzidelis II), Collin Joseph Sapienza, Alex Joseph Sapienza, Justin Edwin Sapienza, Ally Marianne Sapienza, Maya Rose Sapienza and Molly Ann Sapienza; his great grandchildren, William Monzidelis III and Joseph Ralph Monzidelis; and his brother Thomas Sapienza. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
