He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Barden and Mildred Cook Barden; his former wife Lucille Bruce Barden; his sister Helen Dean; and his grandchildren, Michael Shear, Sarah McGregor and Kevin McGregor.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ella "Molly" Barden; his children, Richard Barden (Sue) of Port Orange, FL, Deborra Shear (David) of Whitney Point and Patricia McGregor (Robert) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; his stepsons, Kevin Richardson (Sara) of Tampa, FL and James of Vestal; and his grandchildren, Christopher Shear (Kristen), Christina Panella (Richard), Laurie McWilliams (Patrick), Matthew Barden (Misty) and Gabriella Richardson. He is also survived by husband, father, and Papa.

In lieu of flowers, he asked donations to be made to the Front Street Dog Shelter, where their dog "Trixie" was rescued.
