He was predeceased by: his parents, John Mabee and Helen Dawson Mabee; his brother James "Jimmy" Mabee; his siblings-in-law, John Iveson, Gordon Smith, Tim Johnson, John Smith, Joan Johnson and Carole Smith; his nephew James Iveson; his great-nephew James Bond; his cousins, Arlene and Joe Pizzuti; his mother-in-law Lottie Edie Altman; and his uncle Dawson.
He is survived by: his wife June; his sons, Craig Vestal (Penny), Garrett Clifton Park (Ann-Marie), Bryant Vestal (Kelly) and Brent Saratoga (Megan); his grandchildren, Rob (Sarah), Joshua (Meredith), John (Larissa), Joseph, Bryant (Quiashawn), Mason (Kenna), Jacob, Nora and Nolan; his great grandchildren, Finley, Beckham, Patrick, Ella and Stella; his siblings, Gary (Kim) and Sally (Jeff); his sister-in-law Cassie; and his caregivers, Brittany and Brittni.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service was held on Sunday, January 26th 2025 at the Vestal United Methodist Church (328 Main St, Vestal, NY 13850). John loved talking to people even during Covid he would knock on the window and wave at people as they would walk by.
