He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Tait and Barbara Tait. He is survived by: his wife Marlene Stanton Smith Tait; his pet Tiffany; his daughters, Michelle Barnhart, Christine Fraser (Dave) and Deborah Sturdevant (Derek); and his stepchildren, Lori Karas (Michael), Dennis Smith (Nancy) and Lynne Smith-Barnes. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; four brothers (Larry, Gary, Timmy, and Andy) and two sisters (Ginger and Char); as well as several nieces and nephews.
As a recipient of an organ donation, Benton's heart transplant gave him 11 more years of a joy filled life surrounded by loved ones.
