He was predeceased by: his parents, T. Gilbert Smith (Ethel) and Ethel Terry Smith (Sandra); his wife Norma Marceau; and his sister Joyce Boyle. He is survived by: his children, Kim Erwin (Don) of Loganville, GA and Terry Smith (Carrie) of Ocala; his brother Norm Smith (Janet) of Lancaster, PA; his niece Nicole; his brother-in-law Frank Boyle of Asheville, NC; his niece Holly; his nephew Jeff; and also, Cindy Lazzaro (Tom) of Verona, Thomas Kalies of Verona, Greg Giacovelli of Utica and Jeffrey Kalies (Hannah Gage) of New Hartford. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
