Maryann T. Amarosa Obituary

UTICA – Maryann T. Amarosa, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2024, with family by her side, following a brief illness.

Born in Utica on March 26, 1948, Maryann was the daughter of the late Anthony R. and Ann (Spano) Amarosa. She was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy and furthered her studies by attending nursing school and earning her LPN. For many years, she held a nursing position at Faxton Children's Hospital.

Maryann will be remembered for her loving and generous nature. She was blessed with a big heart. She always provided a "good ear" for listening to her loved ones, or anyone who needed to talk. She filled the role of second mother to many of her younger cousins, and she was affectionately called "Aunt Maryann" by Kenny, Kieth, and Kody Drake and Kait, Tim, Andrea, Aubree, Rosalie, and Viola Brown; she absolutely loved being a part of their lives.

Some of her most cherished memories were the times she spent with her fellow snowbird families in Florida, especially Ann, Vern, and Wilbur.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed square dancing, bingo, and peaceful walks with her friends. Later in life, she took up ceramics, crocheting, and knitting; she brought joy to many by gifting them with her hand-made creations.

Maryann cherished the memory of her sister, Carol Amarosa, who passed away in 1954 at the age of 12. She is survived by her aunts and uncle, Dolores (Spano) and Howard Bender, and Mary Spano; many cousins especially acknowledging her cousin and goddaughter, Kathleen "Kathy" (Bender) and Timothy Brown, Sr., her cousin and goddaughter, Jo Marie (Bender) Drake and Paul Gleba; her cousins, Sharon Baart, Shirley (Rocco) and Ted Wightman, Brian and Cheryl Spano, Debbie (Spano) and Wayne McCrossen, Doreen Spano, Daniel and Donna Spano, Tony Spano, Judy (Stefanini) and Larry Freitag, Richard Stefanini, Marty and Jeanne Collucci, Harriet DeLuisi; and her godchildren, Ken Birtle, Dr. Kaitlyn Brown, and Shelley (Wightman) Essex.

She was predeceased by her aunts and uncles, Chancy and Joseph A. Stefanini, Marie and William Stefanini, Joseph Spano and his wife Ann, Salvatore Spano, Grace and her husband Anthony Rocco, Vera M. and Peter LaRocco, Antoinette Cittadino, Eugene J. "Gino" and Anna (Colucci) Amarosa, Louis Amarosa and his wife Antionette, Martin Colucci and his wife Fannie (Amarosa), Carmen Amarosa and his wife Dina, Dick Collea and his wife Maryann (Amarosa); and her cousins, Jimmy and Terry Amarosa, Frankie and Roseann Amarosa, Louis Amarosa, Linda Lou Amarosa, Theresa D'Aprix (Collea), Anthony Collea, Rosemary Battey, Sister Joan Rocco, O.P., Office of the Pope, William Stefanini, Joseph Stefanini, Kenneth Drake, William Baart, and dear to Maryann's heart, Ramona (Baart) Mack. We also cannot forget to mention her canine companion of many years, Bella Marie, who was with her in her heart every day.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Memorial contributions in Maryann's honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital online at http://www.stjude.org.; envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
