He is survived by: his wife Mattie; his children, Rosi Liggins-Jones (Willie Jones), Pamela Liggins, John H. Liggins, Jr. and Katherine Scott; his stepchildren, Valerie, David Bennett, Margaret Lilley, Joyce, Ervin Enoch, Clareitha, Richard Titus, Russel Brooks, Timothy Brooks, Donna, Anthony Brooks, Jackie Brooks, Mark Brooks, James, Alsarina Brooks and Eric Brooks; his grandson Devin Liggins; his siblings, Adlean Harris (Joe Harris), Lillie Mae (Richard Savage), Rose Pearl (Frank Cole), Dorothy (David Mathis) and Marger Ree (Paul Bower); and his sibling-in-law Clover Liggins. He is also survived by 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
