He was predeceased by: his father Dennis McCarthy; his spouse Jean Casey; his grandson Matthew Ciecko; and his brother Jack McCarthy. He is survived by: his daughters, Jill (Dan Reynolds) of Utica, Colleen (Carl Ciecko) of Utica and Sandra McCarthy (Edward McCarthy Jr.) of Utica; his sisters, Katherine Lupia of Rochester and Joanne Ritchie of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Ryan Ciecko (Tania), Shane McCarthy, Meghan Reynolds and Molly McCarthy; and his great grandchild Theodore Ciecko. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
