Carrie M Brown Obituary

Carrie M. Brown, 41, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was born August 30, 1978, the daughter of Daniel and Jacqueline (Hotaling) Brown of Westmoreland, NY. During her early years, she loved to go camping and fishing with her brothers. She also enjoyed participating in the yearly Father's Day Frog Race in Old Forge.

Carrie was a graduate of Westmoreland Central School Class of 1997. She was a fierce competitor in basketball and softball. She will be remembered as a point guard and being the Varsity Catcher, for Nicole Bairossi, while she was still only in the 8th grade. She went on with a full basketball scholarship to play at Mater Dei College, continuing to excel in the Junior College ranks.

Carrie had various jobs throughout her adult life, but her employment at UCP was her passion. She just simply cherished the opportunity to care for disabled and challenged individuals. Carrie adored her niece and nephews. She attended numerous events and games as a proud Westmoreland alumni in the stands. Carrie was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Miami Dolphins and especially the New York Yankees, along with her Grandpa Lloyd.

She loved collecting sports cards and participated in many card shows. This evolved into her passion for collecting vintage collectibles and knowledge for jewelry. She could be seen at the many antique shows on the East Coast. Carrie loved caring for animals and will be missed by her support dog Lee, whom she loved so much.

Carrie is survived by her parents; two brothers, Daniel and his children Haylee and Landon, David and his sons Devin, Casey and Brayden, all of Westmoreland; two grandmothers, Myrna Brown of Clinton and Jennie Brown of Clark Mills; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and a three very special sisters-in-law, Danielle, Sara, Angela and her daughter Kylie.

Carrie was predeceased by her grandfather Lloyd Brown; great-grandmother Dorothy Pawlicki; great-grandmother Mildred Joseph Hotaling and great-grandparents Thomas and Agnes Barrett. Carrie will be sadly missed, but her love for her family, her caring spirit and passion for life will be remembered by all who knew her. For those touched by her life and affected by her tragic death, we are reminded to live everyday to its fullest and to be sure to tell all those in your life how special and loved they are, just as she did.

Carrie's family asks that donations be made to Stevens-Swan Humane Society or United Cerebral Palsy.
