He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Bates and Wanda Bates; and his brother David Bates. He is survived by: his wife Kim Bates (Bunal); his children, Brandon Bates, Amanda White (David White), La Reina Bates and Brian Bates (Hope); and his sister Alice Shaler (Larry Shaler).
