He is survived by: his wife Barbara Thomas Compton; his children, Molly Herwood (Steven), Julie Ryder and Carl "Chip" Compton, Jr.; his grandchildren, Edward "EJ" Ryder III, Crystal Clifford (Kyle), Samuel Herwood, Hollyanne Compton (Jordan), Micaela Compton (Dan) and Rebecca Herwood-Mussen (Zachary); his great grandchildren, George, Charlie and Luna; and his sister Leona Thomas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
