He was predeceased by: his wife Roseann Shanahan; his sister Mary Shanahan; his parents, Maurice Shanahan and Alice Shanahan; and his brother Edward Shanahan.
He is survived by: his children, Susan Matteson (Maurice), Michael Shanahan (Amanda) and Megan Christoffel (Glenn); his sisters, Rita Vollmer and Alice Harrington; and his grandchildren, Andrew Matteson (Ariana), Shane Matteson (Jamie), Connor Shanahan, Kara Shanahan, Zoey Christoffel and Jacob Christoffel.
