He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerry McAvan and Claudia McAvan; his wife Heather McAvan (Fenner); and his children, Chandler McAvan, Colin McAvan, Hayley Champlin (Matthew) and Shawn Hand Jr..
He is survived by: his siblings, Colleen McAvan Klei and Brian McAvan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
