He was predeceased by: his siblings, John W. Melvin and Nancy Ann; and his brother-in-law Lieutenant Colonel Kip Taylor. He is survived by: his parents, Merle D. Melvin of Fayetteville and Ann Ross Melvin of Liverpool; his sister-in-law Jill Melvin of Cazenovia; and his nephews, Ian, Ryan Melvin, Dean and Luke Taylor.
