“Years ago, Lonnie and I jokingly got into a dispute over a rock - a chunk of granite, roughly the size of a loaf of bread. I stuck it on the front porch, and we agreed that I should hold it for her, but it would always be hers. We'd laugh about it, as if it were a pet. Lonnie was one of a kind. She'd regale you with stories of the road, of Deruyter, of the people she'd known. She was a truly wonderful person. Condolences to the family. And Lonnie: I am taking care of Rock. And thinking of you.”
