With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Cecil Chester Cooper of Syracuse, New York, born in Richmond, Virginia, who passed away on May 7, 2023 at the age of 97. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his wife Rosetta Cooper; his parents, Arthur Cooper and Gladys Norrell; and his siblings, Thomas Cooper and Doris Yarbough.
He is survived by: his daughter Deborah; his son-in-law Darold Hamlin; his daughter Denise Cooper; and his sisters-in-law, Juanita Davis and Martel Cooper. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In June 2015, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner recognized Cecil for his work on the Wall of Honor and his other contributions to the community by issuing a proclamation that June 21, 2015 - Cecil's 90th birthday - would be marked as "Cecil Cooper Day.".
