He was predeceased by: his son Terence Brendan Freeman; and his brother John Freeman. He is survived by: his parents, William J. Freeman and Agnes Lynch Freeman; his children, William L. Freeman, Mary C. Freeman and Colleen M. McGuire (Jeff Wasserman); his grandsons, Daniel McGuire, Bryan Freeman, Michael McGuire and Kevin Freeman; and his siblings, Maureen Phillips, Patrick Freeman and Richard Freeman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
