He was loved and cherished by many people including: his adoptive father Frederic B. Gilbert, III (Eleanor T. Gilbert); his wife Sharon Maier; his daughter Allison Broadfield; his son-in-law Arlen Broadfield; his grandsons, Andrew and Adam Broadfield; his sister Barbara Walsh (William); and his sisters-in-law, Annette Maier and Billie Maier. He was also cherished by step-grandchildren, cousins, nephews and one niece.
During these years he took courses (and later taught at) The Graduate Theological Foundation, doing his course work and thesis at Oxford University.
