He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Emmanuel Swanson and Marjorie Clark Swanson; his wife Mary Gray; and his grandson Michael Richard Swanson. He is survived by: his children, Richard Swanson (Marie Minozzi-Swanson) and Korin Swanson (Graham Trask); his grandchildren, Christian Swanson, Ryan Swanson, Richard Graham Trask and Verane Trask; his great grandchild Carter Swanson (Dick); and his grandchild Christian SwansonI. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Heifer International or the Wounded Warrier Project, both charities near and dear to him.
