He was predeceased by: his parents, Sherilus and Idamance Abelard; his grandson Tristan Carter Burke; and his brother-in-law Charles Idal. He is survived by: his wife Edith Abelard; his children, Jean Claude "AJ" Abelard, Maria Methia Abelard-Burke (Normand G. Burke), Edithson Abelard (Carolyn Debus-Abelard), Mike Stevens Abelard, Travis Abelard and Kevin Abelard; his sister Elza Abelard-Idal; his niece Shirline; and his grandchildren, Janayah, Tydus, Lilian, Chase, Delpe, Joseph, Noel and Gilles.
