He was predeceased by: his parents, Hendrik Ahrens and Elbertje Koetsier Ahrens; and his siblings, Peter, Teunis, Hendrik, Gijsbert, Gijsje Havenaar and Henny Mix.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ahrens; his children, James Ahrens (Judy), Mary Ellen Hunt (Alan) and Susan Beach (David); his grandchildren, Kristy, Karen, Mary, Sean, Ashley, Kimberly and Jesse; his great grandchildren, Jack, Luke, Julian, Olivia, George, Riley, Jackson, Farrah, Dustin and Donar; and his siblings, Jan Ahrens, Willy Arnold (Al) of Cortland and Jannie (Slot). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
