He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Irene Johnson of Southampton, NY; his children, Denise Ross (Clyde) of Mattituck, NY, Joseph Johnson III of Flanders, NY, Lisa Johnson and Karen Elaine Johnson; his siblings, Deloris Crump (Fred) of Bayshore, Lola Carpenter of Gordon Heights, James Johnson (Brenda) of Riverhead, NY, Eddy Cullam of Southampton, NY and Carl Diggs of Pennsylvania; his uncle William Hopson of Easthampton, NY.; and his close friends, Richard Oliver, Lawrence Finney and Louis Pinkney. He was also cherished by 11 Grandchildren, 26 Great grandchildren and two Great-Great grandchildren.
