He was predeceased by: his parents, Jean Gates and Eileen Gates; his wife Barbara Bullock Gates; his brother Peter Gates; his grandson Adam Carmeli; and his daughter-in-law Susan Gates.
He is survived by: his children, Cindy, Eric, Dennis and Chris; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Gates. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
