He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Backus and Alice Backus (Brundege); his siblings, Robert, Andy, Lloyd, Jayne, Marjorie and Ruth; his grandchildren, Florence Beers and Vic; and his great grandchild Macy.
He is survived by: his wife Grace Beers; his children, Joann Scofield (Tim), Robert Newell (Carol), Ricky Newell (Denise), Penny Springstead (Roger), Rhonda Bryant (Jim), Edward Jr. "Tiger" Backus (Dianna), Randy Newell (Lacy) and Beth Starr Backus (Craig); and his grandchildren, Jason, David, Melinda, Tonya, Amanda, Jonathan, Paul, Tom, Jeff, Alvie, Tiffany, Lyndsie, Tucker, Madison, Kendra, Hailey-Mae, Jesse, Dawson, Alyssa and Damon. He is also survived by his 31 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
