He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Addison Waters and Mildred Elaine Waters (Bausch); his brothers, Louis Addison Waters Jr. and Robert Benton Waters; and his daughter-in-law Irene Waters (Eggan).

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Kessinger Waters (Barnard); his sister Elizabeth Elaine McNish; and his children, Peter Barnard Waters (Carolyn), Stephen Bradley Waters (Wendy Beth), Nancy Kessinger Waters of Worcester, MA, Kristin Benton Waters of Worcester, MA and Dean Lincoln Waters (Kim). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

“While I never met George, I feel I got to know him a little when I visited Shirley and heard stories about him and their life together. I am in the Pen Women Branch in CNY and have visited with Shirley at least 3 times and wrote a poem for her in our anthology, In the Company of Women. In it there is a photograph of a sketch of George that Shirley was working on. I know she was devoted to him. She also is one of the most engaging people I ever had the pleasure to meet. The first time on the phone was like drinking in sunshine. My deepest sympathy to all of the family and friends who treasured George in life and now his memory. Janet Clare Fagal”
