It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Walter George Schmidt (Schenectady, New York), who passed away on January 23, 2023, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his sisters, Elizabeth "Bette" Toth, Ruth "Ruthy" Huszar and Mary Dergosits; his uncle Dick; and his aunt Margaret Paige.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Agnes Schmidt; his children, Eric Frank Schmidt (Jody) of Hilton Head, SC, Walter Richard Schmidt (Maryann) of Galway, NY, David Michael Schmidt (Ronald) of Voorheesville, NY, Heather Newton Hollis (Ariel) of Ardmore, PA, Rebecca Anne Haydock (John) of Charlottesville and Virginia; his grandchildren, B. J., Becky, Mason, Madeline, Josephine, Drake, Genevieve (Gena) and Cove of Maria, J. J.; his niece Susan Lynn Cole (Neal); and his siblings, Louis, Richard Schmidt and Alice Fuller. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers Walt asked that donations be made to West Charlton Volunteer Fire Department or the Galway Ambulance Corps.
