He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Albert Phillips and Esther Wade Phillips; his wife Karen Mortimer Phillips; his sons, Donald Phillips (Lisa) of Rotterdam and David Phillips (Lori) of Rotterdam; his grandchildren, Bruce, Emma, Nicholas, Jolie and Marissa Phillips; his stepgranddaughters, Emma and Molly Sinisgalli; and his sister Patricia Hedler of Columbus, Ohio..
