He was predeceased by: his parents, Archie Hurlburt and Ruth Hurlburt (Jones); and his sister Virginia Washburn. He is survived by: his wife Jane Hurlburt (Dawson); his children, Dianne Webber (Gary) of Franklinville, Howard Hurlburt, Jr. of Arcade, Burdette Hurlburt of Arcade, Brenda Genewick (Edward) of Hamburg, Damaris Claire (Dave) of Franklinville, Deneise Ressler (Bob) of Arcade and Michael Dawson (Tracy) of Arcade; his niece Pamela Waterman (Jim); and his nephew Christopher Lester (Lynn). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.
