He was predeceased by: his former wife Margaret McKnight; and his sister Patricia Conero. He is survived by: his spouse Catherine A. DeAngelis; his children, Byron J. Slater (Patricia) of Los Angeles, CA and Jefferson D. Slater (Joy) of Cape Cod, MA; his stepchildren, Mary Catrone of Salt Point and George Catrone of Poughkeepsie; his great grandchild Daniel; his siblings, Violet Rosner (Sid) of New Jersey, Edith Conero of San Francisco, CA and Alfred Frank Conero (Joann) of Rhinebeck, NY.; and his grandchildren, Shannon, Alex, Mary and Cathy.
