Katherine Ala wrote a sympathy message

“We are in Florida for the winter when we heard the very sad news. Eileen and I have been friends for many years and have shared all our ups and downs. She was always a good listener when I needed an ear. And when I wanted to laugh, I only needed to be in her company. We spent many a day at our church volunteering together, dinners at each others homes, going for lunches including always spending our birthdays together, and even going away together or visiting us in Florida. One of my favorite memories was when my husband took an art workshop in Maine. Eileen came with us and we spent several days exploring the magnificent countryside and discovery new places; Andrew Wyeth's home and a glimpse, first hand, of a Stephen King movie set in progress. We were quite taken by celebrity. Then there were the quiet times in her cottage just having tea together, or the times she spent at our home during hurricanes. I could go on about our friendship. I will share one more cherished thought. I once gave her zinnia seeds from my spent flowers in the fall.I explained how to plant them, as she was fascinated by the idea of growling them again. With my direction she followed through. She was so thrilled to watch the seedlings come up and was proud as punch to share her lovely rainbow colored garden patch. Every year there after, she would collect her own seeds from her flowers and replant them in the spring, never once being disenchanted with the outcome of her labor. Like our friendship, they lived year after year. Zinnias will always be synonymous with that sweet round Irish face. God bless you Eileen, I will miss you and will cherish our memories.”
