He was predeceased by: his parents, James Simons and Lorraine Yoder Simons; and his siblings, Jean Wende and Donald Harold Simons. He is survived by: his wife Elisabeth Nagel; his children, Christopher Philip Simons of Hornell and Kaitlin Marie Simons of Grand Island; his grandchildren, Alexander Rome Griffis, Colt Daniel Simons, Guinevere Kathleen Elisabeth Simons and Benjamin Richard Simons; and his siblings, Richard Simons (Lisa) of Bluffton and Patricia Zanto (Jerry) of Helena.
