He is survived by: his spouse Pura Marrero Rivera; his son Dr. Joseph R. Maldonado, Jr.; his nephew Dario (Norma Otero); his brother Carmelo; and his sister-in-law Cynthia Marrero. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
