He was predeceased by: his parents, L. George "Bud" Benner and Mary Benner (Reilley); his in-laws, Walter and Mary Erickson; and his siblings-in-law, Keith Erickson, Elaine Dean and Deborah Freidell.
He is survived by: his son John Jr.; his wife Alice Erickson; his daughter Amy Race (Gerry); his grandson Nick Race; his siblings, George "Joe" Benner (Jean) and Margaret "Peggy" Collins; and his siblings-in-law, Carl Erickson (Eleanor), Chris Erickson (Jean), Kevin Erickson (Elaine) and Lori Foster (Chris). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
