He was predeceased by: his son Daniel; and his brother Robert. He is survived by: his wife Joan Powers; his children, Thomas (Kathleen), Patricia (Mark), Susan (Alan), David (Colleen) and Sharon; and his daughter-in-law Dorothy. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church in his memory. The family greatly appreciates donations made to these charities in John F. Powers 's name.
