He is survived by: his children, Jim Sweeney (Fran) and Susan Reeners (Bruce Almekinder); his grandchildren, Jason, Patrick (Kelly), Meaghan Sweeney, Ashley O'Mara (Ryan) and Jon Reeners; his great grandchildren, Gavin Sweeney, Brody Sweeney and Carter O'Mara; and his friend Jim Galloway.
Bernard's contributions to his community were numerous.
